Java Idea

February 26, 2008

We have been thinking long and hard about what we could do for this assignment, the brief is pretty open so it does leave us alot to think about.

Here is what we have come up with:

Personalized jukebox.

The user will have to log onto the site via username and password, this will be the only way to enter the site. This takes them to their profile page, where they can upload songs, see songs which others have uploaded and use the application like a jukebox.

There will be a database connected to the site which allows for the updating of song information, uploading of songs to it and playing of them too. There will also be the opportunity to search for music using terms like, artist, genre etc.

The profile page will look like a jukebox, with all the functions mentioned above.

Sessions will be used to tell the user their last time and date of login and the last songs they played.
A log out function, which doesn’t allow for the pressing of the back button, to get back into the site.

We think its a fair proposal which could push our java skills that little bit futher. And ultimately have a proud piece of work at the end of it.

2nd Java test

January 10, 2008

Had the 2nd Java test today. I thought it went ok, it was stupidly similiar to the mock test. Not really sure if that was the plan but I was finished fairly quickly. Let’s hope I done well…

Java today…

October 25, 2007

My my what a practical that was, Ollie and I kind of came together after the first few exercises due the information that we were being fed was slowly being taken away from us and making things alot more difficult, in my opinion its not the best way for us to be learnign this way, with regards to the langstons ant thing, yes i agree it does give us knowledge about creating some silly game which no-one wants to look at because its just awful, but we have been doing this for 5 weeks now, and we havent really been shown how to apply this to other areas, that may sound silly but all we are doing is antWorld antAgent and antIDontGiveAShit.

To top it of we were baffled at creating a few lines of squares and changing the colours of them of the from red to blue, so simple to say but after 3 hours of non stop brain racking we still hadnt finished, now I know my java skills are lacking in some areas but 3 hours to create some squares and changing the colours, something isn’t right…

Now that all of the modules have now had the chance to explain themselves we have been able to start getting our ideas together, which is very very promising so far.

The Java module is going very well, Hugos module is a breeze our group are more than capable than the tripe that were so called “examples” and as for Joasias’ well we had an ex-student in today called Duncan Shingleton, Please follow THIS link to his work. He was telling us about the right ways to go about doing the course, my personal opinion is that it differs between people his methods of absorbing information seemed to be different to mine, he gave us a few really good tips about the essay basically start early as possible. The 3D lecture was a weird one were had a lecture on Art movements…

We had a meeting with Chris today which enabled Me, Kenny and Aqeel to run by some ideas about the organism project, he didnt advise differently like expected, instead he pointed us in a direction in which we were already heading. In Brief, we are trying to extract information from a medium and produce this data in sort sort of abstract format. One idea was to have the screen blur over, it would get more blurry if the user had lots of information on their screen. We have decided to contact Mike Philips who we know runs the Archos system in the University.

In other news… work was rubbish, Guy has convinced me to play Battlefield 2 this gives me a break from World of Warcraft. Jo starts college tomorrow, she isn’t taking it very well and is worried about meeting new people. She’ll be fine.

Well…

September 29, 2007

IT has been 6 months since I posted anything… in my first day back at university, something clicked, I somehow realised that keeping my thoughts on some sort of medium could prove to be useful… it took me 5 days do write that. What is going on? Motivation is high but doing is low, I have the 3D stuff sorted just need to get some sort of object to animate, the organism project seems to be sorted just need to work out if it’s do-able.

Java turned out to be much much better than expected, Martins notes are really well written and in depth, the essay for joasia is my biggest worry at the moment, I managed to get hold of last years results for her module lets just say the marks were not high or pretty, and judging from last year my writing skills are pants.

By the end of today I should have all the software I need to complete the 3D project, i’ll get the project done by mid-week.
